I moved to London in 1996 and worked at the London Stock Exchange for 5 years, but my heart was always in sports. In 2004, when I was pregnant with my first child, I started Figure Fit, a specialised heated pilates and weight-loss centre in Chelsea. At Figure Fit, we had a resident nutritional therapist to offer nutritional advice to clients. As I worked closely with the therapist, I was inspired to learn more.
I have always been passionate about food and sports. My parents defined me as a ‘foodie’ at the age of 2, when I pointed to a plate of bottarga (fish roe) on the dinner table and finished all of it! I started sailing when I was 12 and soon after I was racing competitively for the Turkish national team. Sport and fitness are still a good part of my life; ranging from running, pilates and various endurance workouts. I also juggle a home life with husband and two children.
I received a BA in Mathematics and Italian from Connecticut College, USA, in 1995. I graduated from the Institute of Optimum Nutrition (ION) in June 2015, as a Nutritional Therapist. I am a member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and I am registered with the Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Centre (CNHC). During my studies at ION, one of the areas in which I was interested was nutritional support for cancer patients. I pursued it further and completed a cancer course at ION, before graduating. I am committed to continuing my professional development and I regularly attend courses and lectures on cancer and other topics in order to update my knowledge.
